The picture editors role

The role of the picture editor is important as the images will attract the customers as the images are what will stand out. They are responsible for important features of the magazine. They are responsible for coming up with the ideas and design and illustration of the magazine and are also responsible for a team of artists. Art editors will have to build a team of freelancers who will provide photography and illustration. Some images can be done in house which is more than likely going to come from external sources. The most important page for the picture editor is the most important page of the magazine, the front cover as this will attract the customers and buyers of the magazine.

Sourcing images
magazines use different sources for different pictures in there magazines, for example there own photographers, free lancers, libraries or PR companies. Photos in magazines should immediately show the reader who is in the article and what it is about, the image will also show the mood due to this picture and how it is presented. Picture libraries and agencies are companies that sell photographs when the picture is impossible to take, for example if someone who has died is featuring in your magazine you will go to one of these and buy a picture suitable for your article.
